Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as her by talented parents, and her family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen was born in Ranelagh an area in Dublin in Ireland, on 17 August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was a contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also owned a piece of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer club in Ireland. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough athletic games. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent to perform. This is why she received almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances within her own country. In her 14th year she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her aspirations and pursue studies in operatic and classical vocals.
